Singapore has always been a place that cherishes its people and talents. On November 12, 2020, the Economic Development Board of Singapore (EDB) officially launched the new Tech Pass program.
The aim of the Tech Pass program is to attract technology professionals from advanced fields such as E-commerce, Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security from overseas to Singapore, further cementing Singapore’s position as Asia’s Technology Financial Hub.
The program will initially be open to 500 applicants, which will be valid for two years, and is scheduled to be issued on January 2021.
Who are eligible to apply Tech Pass?Candidate must meet any 2 out of 3 of the following requirements for the initial pass application:
Last drawn fixed monthly salary of at least S$20,000 over the past one year, or its equivalent in foreign currency; or business owner with annual income in excess of S$240,000 or its equivalent in foreign currency.
At least five cumulative years of experiences in a leading role in a technology company with a market capital of at least US $500 million or at least US $30 Million funding and beyond; Or
At least five cumulative years of experiences including major contributions to design and development/or deployment of leading technology product that has at least 100,000 monthly active users or at least US$ 100 Million Revenue.
What are the renewal criteria after two years?Candidate must meet any 2 out of 3 of the following requirements for the initial pass application:
A minimum of $240,000 yearly income based on assessment of Inland Revenue of Singapore.
Business Spending of at least $100,000 and one local employee who is either a Professional, Executive or Manager Level.
What is the main difference between Tech Pass and other pass?Candidate must meet any 2 out of 3 of the following requirements for the initial pass application:
An Existing Employment Pass and EntrePass holders that meet the criteria of Tech Pass may apply if they meet the prevailing eligibility or renewal criteria of their respective work passes.
Unlike Employment Pass or the rests of Pass application, a Tech Pass holder do not need to secure employment in Singapore. Applicants can apply for Tech Pass without employer sponsorship and will be assessed based on their track record and prior experiences in leading teams/ developing or a tech product.
A Tech Pass Holder can transit between employers or to be an entrepreneur; be an employee or an investor in one or more Singapore based companies at any times; can start and/or operate one or more tech companies; to be consultant or mentor, lecture in local institutions of higher learning.
